The Monbukagakusho, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), offers five different scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan. Persons outside of Japan at the time of application should make inquiries to the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate.
Note on Japanese language for Monkasho applicants
Although the curriculum of the Program is English-taught and does not require knowledge of Japanese, it must be stressed that little useful research can be carried out in Japan without a working knowledge of Japanese. Therefore, unless you are already proficient in Japanese at an advanced level, you will be required to study Japanese in a six-month intensive course run by the Japanese Ministry of Education before coming to Sophia.
